Crisis on Infinite Earths #3: Pt. 23
Previously in Crisis on Infinite Earths...
The Teen Titans and the Outsiders attempt to save as many people as possible…
When Starfire’s blasts are absorbed by “whatever that is,” she wonders what has happened to her home world and her family. Wonder Girl doesn’t notice the building that’s collapsing behind her, but Superman swoops in to save her. He doesn’t have “the foggiest idea” what’s happening. Batman is with him and comments that he doesn’t know how much time they have.
Batman again sees Flash for a few moments. For some reason, Jericho won’t let Batman touch Flash, who soon disappears in front of their eyes.
In space, far beyond our solar system, Brainiac, whose prime directive is to save himself, must now also save the universe. He says, “Only the one called Luthor can help me now.”
In June of 1944, Markovia falls to the Third Reich. Blue Beetle, Dr. Polaris and Geo-Force arrive in Blue Beetle’s ship, which the Germans believe it is a new weapon that Amerikaners have built. Sgt. Rock and Easy Company burst onto the scene. Rock asks the crew of the Haunted Tank if they’re still talking to ghosts. When the “shadow beasts” appear around “the Monitor’s cosmic doodad,” Geo-Force swoops down to assist…
…indeed, the Losers die. And Flower from Easy Company disappears.
Dr. Polaris and Geo-Force work together to stop a shadow beast. When Blue Beetle wonders why he was sent to World War II, he realizes his scarab may possess mystical forces. When the shadow beasts try to separate the heroes, Geo-Force believes it’s “to keep us from defending Monitor’s machine.” Beetle does have the power to destroy them, but they first have to touch and burn him, one by one.
Monitor watches and realizes that Beetle can’t help, so he pushes a button that returns him and “the wounded one” to their own times “where they may await the Earth’s fate along with the rest of her children.”
Back in the future, Solovar, who was wounded helping Kamandi, suddenly disappears.
In 1879 Coyote, Texas, Bat Lash has received a telegram from Ke-Who-No-Tay (Scalphunter) and finds him in a cave with Jonah Hex, Johnny Thunder and Nighthawk. Psimon, Cyborg, John Stewart and Firebrand appear, as well. Together, they battle shadow demons. However, Psimon is ineffective and John Stewart’s ring loses its charge. When a wall of antimatter appears, Nighthawk dies.
