The Red Tornado Saga: Chapter 23

Hawkman reports to the Justice League that he and Jean Loring witnessed Atom, on the verge of a nervous breakdown, disappear into the microcosmos…

Insanity claims them, like a mother embracing a long-lost child. In that embrace, they forget themselves and their world! The forget why they are here and who they are seeking… and they are like babies newborn…

The League meets a woman named “Wanderer,” is attacked by Devil Guards, and travels to Ch’anar, where the regular-sized Atom lies on the other side of the gate strapped to the ground like Gulliver:

Continuing from Justice League of America #213, Atom is revealed to be the power source of Gotha’s power. (Gotha is the land’s tyrannical ruler.)
Even without memory, they are heroes; instinct, training and reflex provide them with a telling advantage.
Nevertheless, they are captured and locked in pillories. As the evil Princess Kass’andre taunts them, Wanderer bursts onto the scene, is revealed to be Krystal Kaa, and releases them. She, the mystic Mother Moon and their Siren Sisterhood work with the League to plan their attack. Meanwhile…

Continuing from Justice League of America #214, Hawkman and Red Tornado go on a “scouting trip…”

Krystal Kaa leads the League through a forgotten network of catacombs and sewers.
The smell: at first, it’s all most of them can think about – so thick, so foul, they can taste it…

Continuing from Justice League of America #214, it’s the final face off between Krystal Kaa and Kass’-andre over the power-staff, with the Justice League trying to help…

Atom is released and goes on a rampage. Green Arrow notices Atom…
--crushing ‘em! Atom’s got Redduy and that kid, Twigs, clamped in his mitt –

Long story short and spoiler alert, there’s a happy ending…

Notes
.
Omitted from my summary of Justice League of America #215 because it didn’t feature Red Tornado, I wouldn’t be a true monster kid unless I somewhere included this fun page:

Not only was Justice League of America #216 the end of the four-part Into the Microcosmos story, it was also the end of Gerry Conway's run as writer.

What's going to happen to Reddy now that he's gone? Come back next week to find out...
